I received a letter/call from SCI. What should I do now?

It is important to communicate with a collection agency that has mailed you a notice or left you a message. Even if you do not have the ability to pay your account in full, call the collection agency and explain your situation to them. They may be able to help you find resources to assist you not only with the account that has been placed with their office, but often with other debts as well. Collection agency representatives at SCI are trained to assist you in resolving these problems!

I would like to take care of my debt as soon as possible, how can I do that?

The quickest way to pay your debt and have your personal credit file updated is to call the agency and pay over the phone, or pay through our web site by credit card or electronic check. SCI accepts payments over the phone by electronic check, Visa, or Mastercard. If you do not have those options available, mail your money order immediately and be sure to include your account number on the money order along with your full name, address, and phone number. If there are any questions, they can call you to confirm they are posting the payment to the correct account.

I received a letter/call from SCI. Can I still pay the company that I owe?

You can do this; however, your account balance as well as your personal credit file will be updated quicker if the funds are paid directly to the collection agency. If you choose to pay directly to the original creditor, you should request that they notify the agency immediately so the agency can update your accounts as well as your personal credit file with the national credit bureaus.

I would like to take care of my debt as discreetly as possible. How can I do that?

By calling 1-888-445-8832, you can enter your Visa or MasterCard information, along with your case number (account number) and your account will be updated without even speaking to a representative!

Will my debt show up on my credit report?

Most of SCI's clients request that we report all accounts to the national credit bureaus. Once the accounts are paid that information is updated to show the item as a paid collection item. If you pay your account in full upon receipt of the first notice, it will usually not be reported at all.

Can a debt I have in collections be removed from my credit report?

If there are extenuating circumstances, SCI will request approval from the original creditor to have the account removed completely.

I filed for bankruptcy. How can I get SCI's information updated to show this?

You should contact SCI immediately. The information required is your bankruptcy attorney's name, address, & phone number; the bankruptcy case number and type of bankruptcy, and, the date of the filing. Your attorney will then need to confirm that the debt being handled by SCI is included in the bankrupty. Your attorney should send that notice directly to SCI. The notice should include your social security number and the account number as shown on the notice you have received from SCI.

I lost my case number from the letter SCI sent me. How can I get this issue resolved?

You can call SCI toll free at 1-888-445-8832. Any representative will be able to help you with your name, address, your current phone number and/or your social security number.

I need to dispute the amount that SCI says I owe. Who can I talk to?

To dispute an account, you must send written notice to SCI within 30 days of receiving your first collection notice. Your dispute should clearly state the reason for the dispute. SCI will then seek additional information from the original creditor and inform you of the outcome of the dispute.

I have insurance that should have covered my debt. How can I get SCI that information?

Just call our toll free number. Any agent will assist you with that issue. Information to be aware of is that if the account is more than one year old, it is frequently too late to file a medical insurance claim. Our insurance specialists will investigate your insurance issue and confirm coverage to determine if the claim is eligile for payment. You will be notified of the outcome. Because of the timeliness required by insurance payors, it is important to relay this information to SCI as soon as you get the first notice.

My letter lists "various creditors" instead of a name. What does this mean?

A listing of "various creditors" means that more than one account is open with us from different creditors. You can call us to get more information on the various accounts. You can call SCI toll free at 1-888-445-8832.
